Prepare yourself for your renovation with these helpful planning tips. Congratulations on taking a significant step in investing in your home by signing the contract for new windows or doors! Now that you've completed the challenging part of making the decision, what comes next?
Whether you're eagerly awaiting the installation date or just starting to consider replacing your windows or doors, the following guide will assist you in preparing your home for the big day and inform you about the installation process when the time arrives.
Access to windows and doors:
Make sure there is approximately two feet of clear space in front of each window or door that requires work inside your home. The installation technicians will use this area to place drop cloths and tools needed for the removal and installation process. During the window removal stage, there may be occasional gusts of wind in various parts of your home, so it's advisable to secure important documents and small items that could be disturbed. Cover or temporarily move computers and electronic equipment, and clear any furniture that might obstruct the installation process.
Window coverings:
Before installation, remove all mini blinds, vertical blinds, roll-up shades, shutters, drapes, and other window coverings to allow access to the interior of the windows. Due to insurance limitations, installation professionals from A Window & Siding Warehouse are not permitted to move or remove furniture, or reinstall blinds, drapes, or shutters.
The surrounding area:
It is important to remove any photos, glass plates, picture frames, or any other valuable wall-mounted items from the walls if they are in vicinity of the work being performed.
Plants and bushes:
Check your yard before the technicians arrive to identify potential obstacles. Technicians may need to work around planters and landscaped areas adjacent to the job site. Trim overgrown bushes and trees that hinder access to windows. If delicate plants or shrubs are located directly below a window, consider temporarily relocating them to avoid damage during the installation.
Arrival and departure times:
Installation typically begins between 8:00-9:00 in the morning, depending on the distance and traffic. The technicians usually stay until the job is completed. If you need them to leave at a specific time, inform the scheduler when setting up the appointment. If you're concerned about inclement weather on the scheduled day, you can discuss rescheduling with the company.
The workstation:
The driveway is generally the best location for the workstation. If the workstation might block a car, be ready to move it when the technicians arrive.
Alarm systems:
Notify your alarm company about the ongoing job so they can manage the system accordingly. They will be responsible for reconnection after the installation is complete.
Where to start:
The installation technicians will assess the job upon arrival and decide where to begin. If you have a preference, you can inform the head technician. The work will usually progress in stages instead of focusing on one product at a time, which saves time and ensures quality.
Multi-day jobs and house openings:
Windows and doors are only removed if they can be reinstalled on the same day. In multi-day jobs, incomplete windows will be weatherproof and secure overnight.
Pets:
Supervise your pets closely during the installation, as technicians may not always be able to close gates and doors behind them. Keep pets in a safe place to avoid any issues during the job.
Expect some dust, noise, and disruption:
Remodeling work can be messy and noisy. After the final cleanup, check the area for any overlooked items, especially if you have small children or pets.
Damage to plaster walls:
In the process of removing and replacing any windows and doors in the home, sometimes due to sweating or previously damaged walls, be aware that water-damaged plaster and previous plaster patching may fall out. For those reasons, A Window & Siding Warehouse’s installation experts are not liable or responsible for any further damage to such, or responsible for any repairs post-window installation. It’s best to leave such repairs to the experts.
Relax and inspect:
Once the installation crew arrives and introduces themselves, they will begin your installation process. Please do not hover over the installation experts as they complete their work. Feel free to go about your day or relax while the work is underway. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask the crew leader. Finally, be present when the job is complete to inspect the finished work for your total satisfaction.
